St. Alfege Church

⛪ Churches

ABOUT

The church of St Alfege is a Greenwich landmark; its striking tower catching the eye over the rooftops of more modern buildings that jostle for space along Greenwich High Street. St Alfege Church was the first London church designed by Sir Nicholas Hawksmoor, and many key historical figures in Greenwich's royal, maritime and scientific history have close links with the site. In the floor of the church in front of the altar, visitors can see St Alfege's memorial, inscribed with the words: ‘He who dies for justice, dies for Christ'.
