Bank of England is the central bank of the United Kingdom. Its headquarters are in the central financial district of the City of London. The purpose of the Bank is different from an ordinary bank who issues accounts or gives our loans – the Bank of England maintains monetary and financial stability by issuing banknotes that Londoners spend in shops. It also regulates banks, financial firms, and payment systems.
